It is with great sadness that the family of George W. Holaday announces his passing on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the age of 90 years.
George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Treva (Johnson) Holaday, sister Katherine (Howard) Springer, daughter Carmen Gilliland (Steve), son Bret (Tamie) Holaday, 4 grandchildren, Amy (Lance) Krebs, Jason (Julie) Gilliland, Courtney (AJ) Adkins, Zach (Leah) Holaday, 7 great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. George was preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Elsie Holaday and son William Kent Holaday.
A native of Paoli, Indiana, George graduated with three degrees (B.S., M.S., and Ed.S) in Education from Indiana University. He was also a teacher and principal in the Bedford North Lawrence school system.
George’s passion for basketball was evident in almost every conversation as he loved to share stories of the days when he coached in Paoli, Tunnelton, and Oolitic high schools. You could certainly see the sparkle in his eyes if you got him in a conversation about Indiana University Basketball. His passion for basketball did not measure up to his greatest pride & love of spending time with his family and friends and he will be missed by all.
A graveside service will be at 10:30am Saturday, August 17 at Paoli Community Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow from 1-4pm at Spring Mill Inn, Mitchell, IN. McAdams Mortuary of Paoli is in charge of local arrangements.
