Listen to Obituary

Margaret Almeda (Hoffmann Bosley) McGiveney, 94, of Paoli, passed away on September 29, 2025 at Springs Valley Meadows. She was born on March 7, 1931, in Martin County to Luther and Amanda (Himsel) Hoffmann. She graduated from Loogootee High School in 1949. A devoted and caring person by nature, Margaret found her calling in nursing. After graduating from Norton School of Nursing in Louisville, KY, she served her community for several decades. She spent many years at the Washington County Hospital as an OB nurse, then went on to work at the Orange County Hospital. She later served as the Orange County Health Nurse, and finally retired from Bedford Medical Center as a surgery nurse after 24 years. To her surgery team, she was known as “Boz,” a trusted friend and coworker who made every day brighter for both patients and staff.

On April 5, 1953, Margaret married William (Bill) S. Bosley II. They spent almost 45 years raising 6 children, taking care of their farm, and traveling all over the US until his passing on January 11, 1998. She later married Paul McGiveney on April 5, 2003. They enjoyed more than a decade together before his passing in October, 2014.

Margaret was a longtime member of Paoli United Methodist Church, where she and Bill worshipped, served, and built lasting friendships.

Margaret’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of taking road trips in her Jetta, learning to drive a stick shift with her car, playing Rummikub and Tic with her, and taking ski boating trips to Patoka Lake. They especially cherish memories of the many family Christmas trips to Boca Grande, Florida where she taught the grandchildren how to dig for clams, collect Coquinas and other seashells, and how to make homemade bread and rolls. The smell of yeast bread baking in the oven will forever remind her family of fun times spent with her.

Margaret is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Marcia Dooley (Larry) of English, Sandra Barrett (Clifford) of Princeton, and Connie Raver (Steve) of Plainfield; sons, Willie Bosley (Jackie) of Paoli and Scott Bosley (Jamie) of Aiken, SC; and son-in-law, Jake Moon of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by 4 step children, Robert McGiveney(Renee), Kip McGiveney, Diane Hardesty (Jim), and Monica Noble (Bobby), all of Louisville, Ky.

She will be sadly missed by her 17 grandchildren: Tara Dooley, Lori (Larry) Miller, Rachael (Brian) Craft, Rebecca Dooley, Bridget (Danny) Kell, Mandy (Tim) Holmes, Tyler (Bailey) Barrett, Mary Raver, Adam (Katy) Raver, Nancy (Eric) Miles, Tony (Jake) Brindley, Andrea Bosley, Megan Bosley, Jenna Bosley, Maggie (Victoria) Bosley, Macey (Jared) Kurtz, and William Bosley.

She leaves behind 17 great grandchildren; Jayda Smith, Eleanor Margaret Dittmer, Katelynn and Cullen Driver, Zach, Reed, and Tinley Miller, Burke Boggs, Jackson, Owen, and Hudson Kell, Elise Barrett, Maddie, Michael, and Morgan Miles, Peyton and James Raver, and one great grandchild on the way. She is also survived by 2 great-great grandchildren and her sisters-in-law, Barbara Hoffmann and Madge Bosley, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, her parents, her daughter, Kim Moon, and two great-grandchildren, Tobias Kell and Ophelia Dittmer in infancy. She was also predeceased by her sister, Dorie (Howard) Roberts, her brothers, Al-Fred Hoffmann, Richard Hoffmann, and Karl (Becky) Hoffman, a sister-in-law, Ruth (Leroy) Ragsdale, and her brother-in-law, Phillip Bosley.

The visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 4–7 p.m. at Paoli United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the church, with Pastor Cody Jellison officiating. Burial will follow in Lick Creek Cemetery.
