Melvin C. Akers

Melvin C. Akers, age 89 of St. Meinrad, passed away on August 9, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburg. He was born on August 9, 1937 to Herbert B. Akers and Sadie (Garloch) Akers. Melvin married Helen (Sturgeon) Akers on September 28, 1996. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Melvin attended the Haven of Rest in Tennyson, IN. He enjoyed woodworking and bird watching. 

Survivors include wife, Helen Akers of St. Meinrad; daughter, Rebecca Housden (Blaine) of Sahuarita, AZ; son, Brad Akers (Stephanie) of Lanesville; bonus daughters, Lisa Schaefer of Velpen and Tina Winchell (Brad) of Velpen; bonus sons, Elvis Roach of Velpen, Steve Hilderbrand (Becky) of Fort Payne, AL, and Tom Hilderbrand of Chattanooga, TN; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Royer and Martha Davisson; brother, Charles Akers

The visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 11:30am - 1pm at McAdams Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. Bro. Ed Young will officiate. The burial will be in the St. Meinrad Cemetery. For condolences visit mcadamsmortuary.com
