Phillip “Phil” Ray Waynick, age 72, of Paoli, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Serenity Springs Senior Living in Jasper.
Born May 26, 1953, in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of Banks and Ruth (Cook) Waynick. Phil grew up in Greenfield Township on the family dairy farm, where he worked alongside his father and grandfather from a young age. His family’s roots in Orange County ran deep, tracing back to his great-great-great-grandfather, Joshua Waynick, one of the area’s early settlers. Phil carried pride in that heritage and in the farming traditions passed down through generations.
On June 18, 1983, he married Lorene Burst. Together they shared more than forty years of marriage, companionship, and friendship. They enjoyed taking walks, cooking dinner together, and spending time outdoors. Phil especially loved taking Lorene on picnics to Spring Mill and Patoka Lake, and the two were truly best friends.
Phil retired as a sales associate from Hubler Chevrolet in Bedford, formerly Burton’s Chevrolet. He attended Moore's Ridge Church of French Lick.
He enjoyed history, farming, tractors, gardening, and yardwork. He loved traveling to the Smokey Mountains and Renfro Valley. Phil also enjoyed watching humming birds, Cardinals and treasured time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Waynick of Paoli; daughter, Melissa Cannon (Rollie) of Celestine; son, Darren Burst (Angie) of Vincennes; grandchildren, Whitley Burst-Cook (Atlee) of Princeton, Jordan Hoffman-Bromm (Justin) of Ferdinand, Sean Burst and Kacey Wei of Princeton, and Linzy Phillips and Mya Powers, both of Vincennes; five great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Howell (David) of Paoli; cousins, Alan Waynick (Debbie) of Paoli and Caroli Esquera (Alvin) of California; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Kendrick Burst.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at McAdams Mortuary with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Moore's Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Rodney Shelton will officiate.
