Dorothy E White

Dorothy E. White, 94, of Paoli, passed away Thursday, December 28, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home. Dorothy was born April 7, 1929, in Orleans, the oldest of seven children, to Lloyd and Melissa Ann (Carnes) Toliver in Orange County's Old Union community. She was a member of Orleans High School's Class of 1947 and a member of Marengo Christian Church. She worked at Heise Brothers and was a telephone operator at Indiana Telephone Company in Orleans.

On July 1, 1951, Dorothy married Dale Eugene White, and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2015. They lived in Orleans until 1958 when they built a new home south of Paoli. They moved to the family farm in Bacon in 1978 and lived there until they moved to Paoli fifteen years ago. Dorothy helped manage the farm, enjoyed cooking and baking, and caring for the many cats and kittens that were on the farm. She loved seeing her family, especially the grandchildren and was always ready for a game day or hand of Rook.

Dorothy is survived by three children: Karen (Mark) Verble, West Baden, IN, Carol (Duane) Rawlins, Shelbyville, IN, David White (Tricia Booker), Mason, OH, four grandchildren: Robin Verble (Seth Pearson), Rolla, MO, Todd Verble, Winchester, KY, Kyle Rawlins, Evansville, IN, and Kayla (Christian) Wurtzbaugh, Shelbyville, IN, and two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Pearson and Charlie Verble of Rolla, MO. Also surviving are three sisters: Loretta Pridemore, Mitchell, Doris Fancher, Orleans, and Nancy (Steve) Jones, Orleans, along with two sisters-in-law, Annabelle Toliver of Indianapolis and Marilyn Toliver of Orleans.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers - Larry, Jack, and Jim Toliver, 2 brothers-in-law - Russell Fancher and Wayne Pridemore, and one sister-in-law, Ruby Toliver.
