Wanita June (Chaplin) Butt

Wanita “June” Butt, age 84, of Paoli, passed away on March 30, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany. She was born on June 16, 1939, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Merle Edward and Mary Ruby (Dalton) Chaplin. June married Justus Butt on June 28, 1958, and he preceded her in death in 2005. June was retired from Kimball International, where she worked for 25 years. She was also a member of Eastview Baptist Church of Paoli.  

She is survived by her children: Kenneth Butt of Paoli, Victor Butt of Palmyra, Kathy Prater of Paoli, and Karen Hargesheimer of Paoli. June is also survived by her brothers: Carl Raymond Chaplin of Paoli and Randy Allen Chaplin of French Lick, and sister Shirley Merlene Crowe of Paoli. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and siblings including Charles Dale, Troy Hyson, Howard Edward, Jack Lee, Harry Duane, Larry Dean, Michael Jean, and Billy Joe Chaplin, and Nina Thomas. She was also preceded by her granddaughter, Mariah Sword, and son-in-law, James Prater.  

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, from 4 to 7 PM at McAdams Mortuary. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 4, at 1 PM, also at McAdams Mortuary, with visitation beginning at 11 AM until the service time.
